The Argentina international joined Tottenham from Atalanta in August 2021 for a fee in the region of £42 million ($53.8m) and since then he has earned a reputation as one of the Premier League's best centre-backs. However, Spurs may face a fight to hold onto the 26-year-old as Los Blancos are keeping tabs on him, reports .

THE BIGGER PICTURE
While Spurs shipped 61 goals last season in the Premier League, they would, arguably, have conceded a lot more without Romero in their backline. It would be a big blow to Ange Postecoglou's men to lose someone of his quality but the lure of Madrid may be too tempting an offer, should one arise, to turn down.
