According to CalcioMercato, West Ham United are interested in signing Brighton & Hove Albion attacker Pascal Gross in the January transfer window.
What’s the story, then?
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Gross in recent days, with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp believed to be a firm admirer of his fellow German.
Gross joined Brighton from FC Ingolstadt 04 in 2017, and scored seven Premier League goals for the Seagulls during an impressive 2018-19 campaign.
It would be fair to say that Gross has not been at this best this season, but Brighton’s faith in the attacker was shown by the fact that they handed him a new four-year contract in June.
According to Calciomercato, West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini is an admirer of the midfielder’s talents, and the Hammers could look to launch a bid in the January transfer window.
Liverpool reportedly feel that Gross could be signed for a figure in the region of £15m, and West Ham would have no problem paying that price next month.
Would Gross fit in at West Ham?
Gross is not a particularly quick or powerful attacker, but there is no question that the German is a very, very intelligent footballer.
Any number 10 that is linked with West Ham is bound to be compared to Manuel Lanzini, who is still working his way back from a serious knee problem.

Gross is not in the same class as Lanzini, but when considering that Pellegrini needs to put together a strong squad, the Brighton ace would be a brilliant signing if he could be acquired for a figure in the region of £15m.

At 27, Gross is also at the right age to arrive at the London Stadium, whilst he would not command huge wages.
It is perhaps not a signing that would excite the West Ham fans on a wide scale, but the 5ft 11in ace would be a very clever signing by the capital outfit.
